Today marks the first day of the first Mercury retrograde of the decade – no pressure 🙂 Usually Mercury retrogrades are periods of three weeks (which also take place three times a year) where we get a case of what I fondly refer to as ‘vacation head’ – the urge to dream, to rely more on our intuition, and to gloss over pesky rational details (in this period, even accountants take a lil’ break from logic so be careful with errors). This year we will have three of these and they all take place in Water Signs, see the list below:
- 16th Feb – 9th of March in Pisces, ingress Aquarius.
- 17th Jun – 12th July in Cancer
- 13th Oct – 3rd Nov in Scorpio, ingress Libra
What’s interesting is that all three retrogrades dive us in the world of our emotions as begin in Water signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio) but then they bring us up under the cool light of reason brought about by Air energy (Libra, Gemini, Aquarius). This means that we must reflect on our deepest emotions this year and then purge them intellectually by becoming aware of them; this process is an invitation to let go of what we hold on emotionally to, by interpreting what we felt in past relationships and finally heal. Also, I published a short video on my YouTube channel in which I briefly explain how this energy will play out:
However, I forgot to mention in the video, the essential, which is that this Mercury retrograde takes place in the sign of Pisces, and this means that we are spiritually guided to get really deep into our feelings, to explore our creativity and to unblock our imagination from the limiting confines of reason. Remember that the North Node is still in Cancer, which foregrounds issues related to our emotional worlds, especially how we mother ourselves, how we make ourselves vulnerable and how we seek comfort in life.
Mercury retrograde is an excellent period for going on a vacation or taking a couple of days off from work, for visualizing and creating art or music, for doing deep healing, resting, reflecting and re-evaluating. Check where you have Pisces in your birthchart, which house and planet lies there, as this can affect you differently according to such placements – whether it is your body and the opportunities you attract (Ascendant), your goals and career (Sun), your unconscious patterns and ways of nurturing yourself (Moon), mental frameworks and communication (Mercury return), your relationships and sense of self-worth (Venus), your sexuality and desires (Mars), your structures and boundaries (Saturn), your connection to spirit and the divine (Neptune), your capacity to heal and transform (Pluto), your individuality and sense of freedom (Uranus), or your sense of growth and luck (Jupiter).
This retrograde is deeply affecting my Sun and Mercury and will end over my Venus. I cannot explain it but I feel how my intuition has already trippled, and I am growing into my power – a power I was too afraid to tap into before, because it is feminine, vulnerable, ultra-fertile and deep, since I was raised in a family surrounded by 3 Air Signs who valued only reason and superficial banter. But I am growing older and more into myself and I uncover amazing new aspects about my Water Sing placements – I’m learning each day about the beauty of understanding emotions, reflecting on them and letting myself make decisions based on intuition rather than purely on logic.
Also, I keep updating my list of tips and tricks to stave off negative energy – one thing I learned recently is that rose oil and rose essence is excellent against negative entities. You can use roses in your home either as freshly cut flowers (but make sure to throw them away as soon as you see the first signs of withering, because otherwise dead flowers are harsh energy for your home’s Chi & attract bad luck), or you could burn some rose scented incense sticks, or use essential rose oil in your bubble bath and even in your tea (I’m currently passionate about a brand of Romanian black tea with jasmin and roses). Alternatively, and for a deeply sensual sleep, sprinkle some rose oil drops on your bed sheets as you can sniff their essence as you slowly drift to sleep. I also like to put some rose oil in my hair, for a more naturally perfumed experience.
For centuries roses have been associated with femininity and love, the fulfillement of one’s own deeply intimate wishes. Which makes me think that perhaps there is a link between ‘being in our feelings’ and getting in touch with feminine energy and protecting ourselves from toxicity, negativity and low vibrating relationships.
And just to complement this romantic and dreamy energy of Pisces and rose essences, I offer below a list of some of the songs I consider to have deeply healing messages, songs that spark emotions within and can help guide you into a different world for a while. I’ve collected these songs throughout the years and they have helped me get through some very dark times, times when getting up and going about my life was nearly impossible, when letting go and moving on proved more difficult than I thought. My heart was broken only to be repatched again through the healing and universal power of music. I hope these songs serve you & remind you that in spite of everything, life is beautiful.
You can return to this healing playlist everytime you want to get into your feelings, during this deeply spiritual Mercury Retro in Pisces or beyond:
